While the dal is made from chana dal with very minimal spices. The dal is topped with green chutney, tamarind date chutney and chopped onion. Ingredients of Dal pakwaan
- It's of wheat flour.
- It's of all purpose flour.
- Prepare of sooji.
- Prepare of carrom seeds.
- You need of black pepper powder.
- Prepare of ghee.
- Prepare of Salt as per taste.
- Prepare of chana dal.
- It's of Salt as per taste.
- You need of turmeric powder.
- It's of red chilli powder.
- You need of garam masala powder.
- It's of dry mango powder.
- You need of ghee.
- You need of cumin seeds.
- It's of asafoetida.
- Prepare of green chutney.
- It's of imli chutney.
- You need of chopped onion.
- Prepare of namkeen.
- It's of Chopped coriander leaves.
The crisp deep fried Maida Puris (Pakwan) are served with simple Chana dal, garnished with chutney and chopped onion. The Pakwan accompanied with dal is often served in various special occasions and even in regular days for breakfast. Wash dal and soak it for an hour. Add hing,chopped onion and fry for a couple of minutes.
Dal pakwaan step by step
- To make pakwaan,make a dough with wheat flour,all purpose flour,sooji,salt,carrom seeds and black pepper powder..
- Cover this and keep aside for 15-20 minutes..
- To make dal,add dal,water,salt and turmeric powder to a pressure cooker..
- Cook it for 2 whistles and then for 3-4 minutes on low flame..
- To make pakwaan,take small balls of dough and roll them out thin. Make holes on them with fork so that they don't puff up while frying..
- Fry the pakwaan on medium flame till golden brown on both sides..
- Take out dal in a bowl and sprinkle some red chilli powder,garam masala powder and dry mango powder on top..
- Take ghee in a tadka pan and add asafoetida and cumin seeds. put the tadka on the dal..
- Serve the dal pakwaan separately or you can serve them with dal, onions,both chutneys and namkeen on top of the pakwaan..
Add grated tomatoes, chopped green chillies and fry it till cooked. A dal pakwan is a combination of dal (lentils) and pakwan (crunchy snack). The idea is to dip the pakwan in the dal and eat it. Adding to the flavors are sweet and spicy chutneys and onions and cilantro that take this dish up a notch. You don't have to serve them on the side, but I highly suggest you do.
